Orientation Pack

Q: What is Welcome Week?

A: Welcome Week is a fun and engaging week made to ease the transition for incoming students upon arrival at Acadia University. Throughout the week, there will be social events, academic programs, and much more so students can have the opportunity to get to know their campus, their peers, and to prepare for the start of classes. This will be one of the most memorable weeks of your life!

Q: What is the difference between an O-Pack and a Cajun's Acadia Apparel Kit?

A: The Cajun's Acadia Apparel Kit is open to everyone and your Acadia Gear starter-kit with clothing from Cajun's! The O-Pack is directed towards first-year students and includes access to many of the ASU Welcome Week events and includes coupons, swag and information!

Q: Should I buy an O-Pack?

A: Yes, and fast! Quantities are limited and every year we sell out!

Q: How much does an O-Pack cost?

A: $100 plus tax.

Q: What is included in the O-Pack?

A: - Exclusive access to the concert and other Welcome Week events (these events sell out, and by having the bracelet included in the Orientation Pack you are not only guaranteed access but also will not have to wait in line for tickets. The cost of all of these events separately would amount to nearly the cost of the Pack), and

- Lots of coupons and giveaways from local restaurants and shops (great for discovering what the community has to offer for free or at little cost)

- Information packs to help you become familiar with Acadia and the community.

- The bag also doubles as a great gym bag for trips to the Acadia Athletic Complex.

- All sorts of Swag!

Q: How do I purchase an O-Pack?

A: Please visit acadiagear.com/orientation-pack

Q: Where do I pick up my O-Pack?

A: You can pick up your O-Pack on arrival day (Saturday) between 9:30am-2pm or Sunday between 10am-2pm, in the main level of the Student Union Building.

Q: If I arrive late, where can I pick up my O-Pack?

A: If you arrive later in the week, we will provide a pick-up location at a later date.

Q: Do I need to print off confirmation of my purchase and bring it in order to receive my O-Pack?

A: No, however we encourage you to bring a piece of government issued photo I.D. or your Acadia student I.D.

Frequently Asked Questions

Events

Q: When will all the events and event details be posted?

A: The Schedule will be posted as soon as we finalize all details, however the schedule is subject to change at any time. We are working hard behind the scenes to plan a Welcome Week that's one for the books!

Q: Can I pay for each event individually?

A: The bracelet, which is in the O-Pack, is the only way to guarantee access to all events. While tickets are sold for some individual events, access to the event is not guaranteed, plus you don't get the cool stuff that comes with an O-Pack.

Q: If I live off-campus, can I still participate in all of the events?

A: Yes! We highly encorage off-campus students to attend all events during Welcome Week. Looking for something to do between events? Come to the SUB and relax. We've got food services, apparel and more!

General

Q: Who plans Welcome Week 2015?

A: The Acadia Students' Union and Student Services at Acadia University work together to plan Welcome Week.

Q: When can I move into residence?

A: Move in day is Saturday, August 29th starting at 9am. For more information, please contact Residence Life at residence.life@acadiau.ca.

Q: Where is the Student Union Building (SUB)?

A: Please refer to the Campus Map PDF, it is #30! You can also find our address on the "Contact Us" page!

Q: Are the International Welcome Week and General Welcome Week the same?

A: Some events are the same; others are specific to International Students. The International Welcome Week begins earlier.

Q: Where can I pick up my room key?

A: Your Student ID will be used to access almost all the services Acadia has to offer you.  It has a picture of yourself and your student information.  It will give you access to services at the gym, library, Students’ Union Building, and even grant you discounts at some places in town.  Your Student ID is also your key into your residence building and room if you live on campus.  Your Student ID is also used for any Meal Plan option you have selected whether you live on or off campus.

The easiest and most stress-free way of obtaining your Student ID card is by sending in your photo online to Safety and Security before you arrive and picking up your card upon your arrival. This will save you time in any long lines of students who haven’t done this ahead of time. To submit your photo go tocentral.acadiau.ca/accounts and log in using your Acadia Central username and password then click on "Axcess Card Picture Upload". Please read over the guidelines and make sure your picture will be appropriate.

Once you have done this and your photo has been approved, you can skip the line and your card will be ready and waiting for you to pick it up on Arrival Day (August 29th) in Fountain Commons! (If you pick up your card before Arrival Day, you will need to bring your card to Fountain Commons on Arrival Day to get it activated.)

Q: What is the alcohol policy at Acadia?

A: Acadia Students' Union is a strong proponent of responsible behaviour. We encourge our members to make reasoned and responsible choices. Our members are also representatives of the institution, and we encourage our students to behave in the manner consistent with the traditions of Acadia Univeristy.

Please contact Residence Life for their Alcohol Policy.

Q: Am I going to get hazed?

A: Absolutely not. Welcome Week is meant to be fun, and to introduce you to your new school and new classmates. The University does not tolerate hazing or any initiation rituals. If you ever don’t want to participate in an activity, all you have to do is say no. If you feel like you are being hazed at any point, please talk to a Welcome Week leader and we will deal with the situation. We want you to like it here!
