ASU LEGAL AID

The ASU retains the services of a law firm for the advice and assistance of all full-time students at Acadia University and ASU staff.  This assistance is available for any legal problem, whether or not it is university related.

There is no charge to the student for the initial half hour consultation.  The lawyer is available one day per week.  All consultations are confidential and are made by appointment.  Appointments must be made prior to 12 noon on Thursdays.  Students must provide 24 hours cancellation notice, or their free consultation will be forfeited.

Legal advice is not available in any manner in which the adverse party is the ASU itself.  However, the lawyer can arrange for Legal Aid representation or recommend competent outside counsel where it is needed.

The lawyer requires some information from the student when an appointment is requested: name, student ID number, telephone number, type of problem, a brief description of the problem and names of the persons involved.  Remember, all of this information is confidential.  Once this information is received, the student will be given the time and location for their appointment (on Friday afternoons).
